Not your typical memory quilt

I work for a charity that makes quilts for people in need. Twice a year they have a sale of some of their quilts to raise money for batting and we all try to deliver something special for the sale to raise as much as we can.

The quilt below was made with orphan blocks, these are blocks that we as quilters either have left over, or test blocks before we commit to making a full quilt, or blocks from a quilt we decided to not finish (yes, it happens). Anyway, I gathered the blocks and inspired by the Wanderer’s Wife quilt, I figured we could make sense of all these different blocks, with all different colors, styles, fabrics.

When the quilters saw this quilt, they all remembered who made what block and for what quilt. They were so happy to see their orphans end up in this beautiful quilt. It sold almost immediately, and not to any of the quilters 😉
